Systems Based Therapy

Systemic therapy, also known as family therapy or family systems therapy, is an approach to psychotherapy that looks at individuals within the context of their relationships and broader systems. Rather than focusing solely on the individual, systemic therapists consider the interconnectedness of family dynamics, social relationships, and larger societal influences.

In systemic therapy, the emphasis is on understanding how patterns of communication, behavior, and interaction develop within a family or social system, and how these patterns contribute to individual and collective well-being or difficulties. Therapists work with clients to explore these patterns, identify areas of strength and challenge, and develop strategies for positive change.

This approach recognizes that problems experienced by individuals often stem from larger systemic issues, such as communication breakdowns, power imbalances, or cultural influences. By addressing these systemic factors and promoting healthier patterns of interaction and communication, systemic therapy aims to improve the functioning and relationships of individuals and families.

Overall, systemic therapy offers a holistic perspective that acknowledges the interconnected nature of human relationships and seeks to create positive change within the broader context of social systems.
